The graph below shows the number of private vehicles in China per million people between 1987 and 1999.In 1987, there were only several hundred vehicles out of a million people whereas in 1999 , there were over 4000 vehicles out of a million people.

Between 1987 and 1991, the number of vehicles per million people increased slightly from approximately 300 to 800 .In 1989 and 1990, it was stablised at 500 vehicles per million people. From 1991,the number of vehicles climbed sharply from 1,000 to over 4,000 in 1999.There were 2,000 vehicles per million people in 1995 whereas the number of vehicles per million people had doubled in 1999.

By the way of conclusion, the number of vehicles rose dramatically during the past decade.
